By looking at colonizing another planet this project takes on a problem that could be faced by generations in our near future. Through using an interdisciplinary approach we hope to break down the barriers between the different disciplines and look at the problem in a more holistic way (Strober, 2009; Thompson Klein, 2005). As students progress through the activities in this unit plan it allows them to make connections across disciplines rather than simply memorizing and regurgitating facts and figures (Friesen et al., 2015). With many different pathways to approach each activity it allows for critical thinking and creativity among students and their groups. The usage of creativity and productivity to meet the challenges set out by this problem and integral in using an interdisciplinary approach effectively (Strober, 2009). With looking at this problem through the view of only one discipline it cannot be solved, the different disciplines are not included to get a different view of the problem but in fact to see the whole picture.
